Substitute for Hallertauer hops?

My roommate and I have recently started brewing beer at home. We want to try a recipe we found in Charlie Papazian’s The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing, but the recipe calls for Hallertauer hops, which due to the hop shortage we cannot find anywhere locally, or online for a decent price ($2-3 for the hops and $10 shipping). Does anyone know of any more common varieties that can be used as a substitute?

I had to do the same thing recently. Best substitute is Mt. Hood. It’s much higher in AAU, so you’ll have to do some quick math and reduce the amounts used.
Mt. Hood was the closest I could find to a Noble Hop, and so far so good!
Bada Bing Cherry Weizenbock in primary with those very hops right now!

Some good replacements…
Crystal, Mt. Hood, and Liberty.
